i NEW* PLYMOUl'H.—March 8. I A sharp shock of earthquake was felt at 7.15 to-night. The Chamber of Commerce to-night decided to urge on the Harbor Board the wisdom of trying to come to some arrangement with the Railway Department re the Breakwater line. Some months ago the Board, in face of heavy charges on the line, and the refusal of the Department to grant any concession, gave notice to the Government to remove the rails on the Board's wharf. The time expires on the Ist April.
NAPIER—March 8
At a public meeting to-night, it was resolved to request the Borough Council to establish public sea baths under the lee of the breakwater.
The Charitable Aid Board to-day protested strongly against the claims for children committed by the Magistrate to an Industrial Home without the Board being consulted. Members generally expressed preference for the boarding-out system as better and less expensive.
The County Council has decided to call attention to the state of the Government portion of the Taupo road. A large bridge was injured two years ago. Timber was probably taken up to repair it, but it had lain on the ground ever since, leaving the bridgo liable to be washed away the first heavy flood.
