High School Board of Governors.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the Thames High School -vaa held yesterday afternoon. Present ~ Messrs Radford (Mayor) in the chair, Comer, Poulgrain, Wood, and Gillespie. The minutes were read and confirmed.

Goldfiblds* Revenue. — Official notification was received of £72 15s 5d having been paid to the credit of, the Board including a sum of £25 5s sd, which by an error was omitted from a former allocation.

Fees in Arrears.—The list of parents who are in arrears with their fees has assumed surprising proportions, considering how largely the attendance of pupils diminished during lecenfc years. When one bears in mind the adverse circumstances which the school has just passed through it seems hard to believe that there should be on the arrears' list the names of people who are well able to pay for their children's tuition.—The Board decided that the Secretary should make another effort to collect outstanding fees, and after that all debts dating back to 1895 should be placed in the solicitor's hands.

Appointment.—Official notification was received to the effect that Messrs Wood, Comer, and Poulgrain had been appointed Government representatives on the Board.

Finances. — The credit balance in hand was stated at about £300.—Mr Wood said that as the finances were in such a prosperous condition it might be advisable to add a coat of paint to the school building,—lt was universally agreed that a coat of paint was badly needed, but the question was raised as to whether it wquld not be. unwise to expend the money except on a new building, the present structure being in very bad repair.-4-The Chair! man referred to the necessity of an addv tional teacher, and stated that the headmaster (Mr J as. Adams B A.) classed this requiieuient as more urgent .than improvements to the building. There were more scholars attending for the present year than formerly. He thought the Visiting Committee should report as to whether it would be more advisable to appoint an assistant teacher, or attend to the school build, ing. The number of scholars was now 34, this total being the same as when three teachers were employed.— Mr Poulgrain referred to the future prospects of the finances, saying that it was not certain whether the continuous lifts which the funds bad received would be repeated* Mr Wood remarked that the prospects of the Government erecting a, new school were now remote, and the matter was left in abeyance for consideration by the Visiting Committee,
