Great activity is displayed iv connection with the various works under development iv this mine, and a large staff, numbering 50 men, are engaged in driving a series of prospecting crosscuts for the purpose of locating and testing the various lodes. A number of men are also to be employed exploiting the surface sections of the mine, and, as the area comprising the company's property consists of 100 acres, it requires a good number of hands to get over the whole area. In the Central section several lodes have been uncovered, and are being systematically opened up. On the north-east section of the mine the company purpose sinking a shaft to a depth of 400 feet, and then commence cro9scutting for the north east continuation of the Golden Cross reef, which, if it maintains its bearing through the country, should traverse the Nebraska and Australian sections of this company's mine. At the depth mentioned, it is anticipated that a good permanent channel of country will be penetrated, and enable the work of crossoutting to be pushed on in a section of country that should carry ore bodies.

Owing to a large amount of sur* face soakage of water coming into the new shaft reoently commenced, an injector had -to be used to assist in expelling the temporary inflow.
