Incendiary Fires a Church.
(Per Press Association.)
Auckland, March 8
An apparent attempt to set fire to St. Patrick's Cathedral was detected at 10 o'clock on Saturday night. A glare of fire was noticed at the main door of the church, and three boys extinguished the flames. They found a piece of sacking pushed underneath the door and saturated with kerosene. A quantity of kerosene had also been splashed about the doorway. A female servant when locking up the church shortly before 10 o'clock saw a man in the porch, but he turned and left the church shortly afterward. The fire alarm was given, but no damage was done. The perpetrator has not been discovered.
