Alleged Embezzlement.

Auckland, March 5.
At the Police Court to-day a young man, named Edwin G. Lowe, appeared to auswer two charges of having, as mine manager of the Cadman Goldmining Company, Coromandel, stolen £2 8s and £3 12s, the property of the Company. Mr Baaley appeared for the Company and asked for a remand for seven days. The Company wished the case to be heard in Auckland if accused had no objection. Accused offered no objection to the case'teing. ..heard here, but preferred having the case taken on Monday week. It was decided to adjourn the case till next Monday on the understanding that another adjournment will be made till the following Monday. Accused applied for bail, but Mr Basley said it would need to be heavy as the offence was a.serious ope There were otner "charges pending against the accused, and the Company had reason to believe the accused intended leaving the colony. \< He drew his account from the Savings Bank yesterday andhad £l 7 upon/him when arrested. /
The Bench allowed bail in two sureties of £25 each and accused's own recognisance of £50 on each charge.
