SUPPRESSION OF BETTING,
(Peb Pbess Association)
Chkistchiwch, March 5. At a meeting" of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, Mr Grieieon (the chairman) mentioned that in Auckland the habit of betting was undermining all amateur sport. Personally he had seen no betting, but it was the usual practice for Auckland bookmakers to make books on tho Bports as they did for horse races. Many men raced, as it were, in the, interests of'their respective stables. Mr Hood Williams moved, and Mr Selig seconded, —" That it having been hitherto reported to the Association that betting was rife at the recent Auckland meeting, the New Zealand | Amateur Athletic Association calls on the Auckland aud North Shore Clubs to take steps to put down betting at any future meetings, and that their special attention be called to Eulo 10, also to Section B, Subsection 1 of Rule 18."
