The cricket match between Rovers and United came off on Saturday. The Rovers had to place three juniors; in the field in place of Adams, Bell, and H. Lang, United also suffering in that respect. Kelly won the toss and sent in Bgginton and McDonald to bat, but the latter was quickly bowled by Lang for 1. Bennett came in only to see Egginton clean bowled by Lang for 7, Gibbons joined Bennett, the score increasing to 32 before Bennett was caught by R. Ross off Buchan for 10. Inglis followed, but sooii lost his partner Gibbons, who was bowled by Lang for 11. Kelly made 4 and was l.b,w. to Lang. Izod being the next man, after making six was also bowled by Lang and Aitken came in while Inglis retired caught by F. Billing off Buchan. Dufty made 1 and was run out, Penno also making 1 and retiring left Towers not out 1. The score then with 5 extras made a total jof 55. A Lang got 7 wickets for 25, i and J. Buchan 2 wickets for 22.

Lang, the next man, was not long with Robertson, who was bowled by Kelly for 6. R Billing then batted, and the score mounted rapidly until Egginton, who had taken Kelly's place, bowled Billing for 9. Buchan only succeeded in adding 1 to the score, and the next man,Akers, was splendidly stumped by Inglis off Egginton, also for l.'A. Ross was bowled first ball by Egginton, and R. Ross was run out for a duck. Cole came in only to see Lang bowled by Bennett for 17, while C. Billing, who followed, made 2, and was caught by Dufty off Egginton, leaving Cole not out for 4. The Uniteds thus managed to score a win, their aggregate being 8 runs over their opponents. The fielding of both teams was not up to form. Kelly took 2 wickets for 11 runs, Bennett 3 for 20, and Egginton 4 for 16.
