MINING NEWS.
WAIHI. An important development has occurred in this company's pround. A telegram received from the mine manager states that in driving the crosscut in the low level, 200 feet from the shaft, a reef 3 feet 6 inches wide has been intersected, the quartz of which assayed 32dwts of gold Jer ton. In the upper level this reef confisted only of a number of quartz stringers, none of which were of much value. This development in the mine is important, as it proves that the quartz in the lower level it richer than that in the upper one. The low level crosscut has still to be driven 60 ior 80 feet to reach the main reef.
