THE IRISH EVICTED TENANTS,

At a meeting of the Evicted Tenants Association in Cork Mr James O'Connor the Hon. Secretary, said he was almost afraid the land question would provoke a civil war in Ireland if the Government did not make immediate provision for the reinstatement of the evicted tenants. In default of immediate legislation the Privy Council sh uld devote £250,000 to maintain the 5000 evicted tenants in Ireland till they were restored to their holdings, or the Paris funds released and augmented. If there was no immediate legislation in favor of the evicted tenants that Association, which spoke for 4000 evicted tenant?, would have to ask the Irish members of Parliament friendly to their interests not to support Mr Gladstone's Government. The evicted tenants had, however, more confidence in Mr Morley than they had_ in their own representatives. A resolution vfas adopted demanding a common agreement for the release of the Paris funds for the sole use of the tenants, and the establishment of an augmentation fund.
