THE EXTENSION OF ABERDEEN UNIVERSITY.
A Munificent Otfkk.
Mr Charles Mitchell, of Sir William Armstrong, Mitchell, & Co, Elswick Works, Newcastle, has, it is understood, offered to contribute from £10,000 to £12,000 towards tae extension of Aberdeen University, on condition that science classes for artisans are established in the evenings, that Professors of Engineering and Agriculture are appointed, and that a large central hall is included in the plan for the enlargement of the present buildings. The Marquis of Huntly, the LordRector of the University, with whom Mr Mitchell has had a consultation on the subject, has expressed the opinion that the proposals could be carried into effect, and it is expected therefore that the munificent gift will he accepted by the University authorities. It may be stated that Mr Mitchell has already contributed £1000 to the extension scheme.
