Laßt night's Opposition caucus has praotioally done no more than fulfil previous prophecies ss to tbo intentions of tho party. There wera thirty members present, and eight are said to have been accounted for, including six members of iho old party who.have not yet arrived j—Messrs JBlake, Guinness, G, Hutohison, Joyce, Pratt, and Ward. By common consent tho Hon. Mr Ballance was votod to the Chair, and a resolution was paeied recognising him qb leader of tho party. A memorial to tho Governor was signed by all present, and a committee of five members appointed to present it. The matter of the Spoakerahip was disoussod, an<l it was formally decided to put up Major Steward aa the candidate to represent tho interests of tha pirty against allcomers. Thoso p eaunt ataTo that neither policy nor tactics were di'icuassci, and neither was theChairmanshipj^lprruniitoea touched upon. Lobby go&aifi, &£!&«■ or, names Messrs Cadman, Kelly, andlbrSia as possible candidates for that poit t>om tbo Opposition benches. The Opposition party have all the labor candidates on theif side.
