Tn breaking the reef in the underhand stope at tbe intermediate level last night, the manager secured ICOlbs of specimens. The stone is of good quality, while there is -a good show left afc the bottom about eighteen inches, end in the face of the stope some two feet in length. The reef here is fully Bft. in thickness, the specimens being obtained from the footwall portion, though gold is also freely seen in the hangingwall. This is un* doobtedly tbe same run of gold as was met with in the level above, and will probably be met with at No. 3 level when the drive is advanced a further distance of some SOft. The appearance of these specimens is quite different from those in ithe stopes above. In the other stopes the main feature of the specimens was mineral, which was mixed with or coated the gold. To-day's haul, on the contrary, displays a large surface of rich yellow gold, similar to Caledonian, Moan at air i, and Alburnia specimens in the palmy days of those mines, only not so rich. With the exception of ruby Bilver comparatively little mineral is to be seen. DARWIN. The reef at No. 3 level shows a slight improvement, and contains good minerals, wbile colors of gold continue to be seen in the stopes above No. 2 level. DEEP LEVEL GfiOSS. Stoping operations on Nos. 2 and 6 leaders are being continued as usual, and colors of gold are occasionally seen. Cleaning np will take place at the end of the week, when a payable return is expected. ■•■"-■' SAXON. Communication has been effected with No. 6 level from the wiDze on No. 3 reef, and the men have commenced to open out on the reef, which looks well for gold. Colors of gold are seen in breaking the No. 1 reef, wbile colors and dabs of the precious metal were also seen in breaking the No. 3 reef above No. 5 level yesterday. • NEW MANUKAT7. The No* 1 reef has been cut 100 ft. below the Arizona level, or a total distance of 240 ft. from the surface.
