It is notified in the Gazette that Militia j rolls hare been prepared at Wellingtoni' Auckland, Cbristchurch, and Punedin, and are now posted. All personJiablelto serve in the Militia, but whose names do not appear in the/lists posted, are informed that <under the existing Militia Act it is I incumbent on them, under penalty, to give in their names, ages, and places of residence to the Adjutant or commanding, officer of theipMiiitia district, with a view to the complete of therolls; and it will boY publicly notified by the commanding of each.district.as soon as possible, at what hours and places such persons can' comply with* the Act; In order to meet the convenience of persons resident at a distance, written communications addressed, to the Adjutant of their Militia districts will be sufficientv^prbvidedtithat they contain the prescribed information as' to full 'name,' ages an<^ place of residence ; also whether 1 they are married or single. The defence works at Lyttelton are ap. preaching completion. The practice gun at Officers Point will be mounted to» morrow. The 64-pounder at Middle Bluff will soon be mounted, and weather permitting the seven-ton gun will be at the battery and will be up in a few days. It is stated that Government intend establishing two more batteries, one on Hi pa Island' and the other on the southern Camp Bay, both to be armed with 8 inch breach-loading 12^-ton guns.
