NELSON.

This day.

In the Lyell murder case, the jury retired at midnight, and after an absence of forty«fire minuses returned a verdict of manslaughter. The prisoner, in reply to the judge, said that he had been con» victed on the oath of a perjured prostitute, and two perjured constables. The judgei sentenced him to penal servitude for life, saying at the same time that the jury had taken a very merciful view of his ease, as the evidence fully justified a verdict of wilful murder. The case has created a lot of excitement, and the Court was crowded the whole time.
