RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY,
(Before A. J. Allom and J. Skene,
Esqs., J's.P.) LAECENT.
Henry Artha and Chas. Smith, two small boys, were charged with stealing fruit of the value of Is, the property of William Avery. The defendant Artha pleaded guilty, and Smith not guilty. Valentine Savage, sworn, deposed—l was getting my tea the other evening when my little boy told me that the two defendants were in Mr Avery's garden. I went over and saw Artha with two pears, and the boy Smith was reaching up to a bunch of grapes just as I appeared on the scene. I caught them and took them to Mr Avery. ' ' ',: ' Mr Avery said he did not wish to press the charge against the youngest boySmith.
Constable Day said that the boy Artha had been up before for stealing fruit. This fruit stealing was becoming a perfect nuisance at Parawai.-. ■ r - "' The Bench dismissed Smith with a caution, and ordered Artha to be imprisoned for 24 hours.
Court adjourned.
