CALEDONIAN.
The manager yesterday measured the water, and found that it still continues its steady rate of increase, viz., four feet per day. The water is now about 66 feet below Caledonian No. 4 level, which is 90 feet below the No. 3, where the Old Golden Calf are in progress. Once the water is up to No. 4 the rate of increase will be greatly decreased from the great extent of old workings it will have to fill. To day the gas was lower in the shaft than it has been for some days previous. The rise on No. 5 has been stopped, and the men have been put on to drive on the No. 3 lode at No. 2 level at a point about 30 feet from the Old Golden Calf winze. There is a nice looking body of stone, but no gold has yet been seen. Other parts of the miue are without change.
