PORT CHALMERS.
■ ■. Wednesday. A frightful accident and death occurred, on the Pprfc Chalmers railway to-day. An employee named Alfred Smith, while coupling some, loaded trucks, from the ship Zealandia by some means caught his foot in the check rails on the Bowen pier. The wheels of two trucks passed over his right leg,and the lower part of his body. Hit .cries were heart-rending. He was
quickly conveyed to the railway station, and attended by Drs Bryson and Arde. The calf of the leg.was severely lacerated, and the whole iof the intestines displaced. Death en sued^about fifteen minutes after. was; a mQst; respectable hard working man, unmarried.
