The usual fortnightly cleaning -up at the Kuranui battery took place this day where 40 head stampers have been reducing quart? for the return of 2,45 ounces retorted gold. In the mine tie chief feature of interest is the opening of No. 1 lode from the cross-cut in the bottom level, proving the reef to be good looking stono 5 feet thick; with gold visible in places; almost warranting to characterise as a payable reef. There are 175 feet backs available, while its length cannot be less than 400 feet in a north-easterly direction through the company's ground; the exact bearing of this reef, however, has not been laid down, but the supply from this source cannot but have a beneficial effect upon the company Voperatipn§. 1$ is, \\\o intention of Mtr Hicks, the manager," to prove the value of this lode by a separate crushing at an early opportunity.
