The Burgess Roll.

f REVISION COURT. THIS DAY. 1 The members of this Court, consisting of His Worship tho Mayor and Messrs Carjaatftt^uAPiilleiEa, sat at the Borough Council Chambers'jift! Say for the purpose of hearing the applications of those persons ■who sent in claims to be placed upon the burgess list for the Borough of Tthames; and for striking out the names of those no longer eligible for remaining thereon. Mr Mcllhone appeared and asked that his name be placed upon the roll as he is the lessee and occupier of the Bendigo Hotel, Shortland. Some discussion was iraiscd upon the question that, as a person of the name of Hendy was on the roll for the same premises, the Court had not power to cause his name to be erased from the list, there being no objection lodged in terms of!, the 54th section of the Act. ■;■■■:

The further hearing of this case was adjourned until:!this" afternoon so that counsel might be. heard on the disputed points.A second application was also received from Mr Mcllhone, that as he was lessee of allotment 353, Block 13, town of Shortland, he claimed.ta havet his name on the burgess list. A person of the name of McMullen had his name already on the list; although he only held possession of half of the allotment.

This case was-isl?0 jadjouwied <antil three o'clock this afternoon.

The. .application of J,ames Cocks was thenfaken. * '

Mr Cocks' riVme was not placed on the list pwmg to his not having paid rates on certain'allotinents 1 in Baillie street.

Mr Dean explained for Mr Cocks that the allotments were leased by Mr Cocks, and he did not consider himself liable. He had paid rates for other properties in the Borough. Mr Fleming stated that the allotments were rated as against Mr Cocks last year, but Mr 1 Cocks had told him that he had let the allotments to Mr Wooderson. His Worship remarked that although it seemed a hard case to strike off the. name, Mr^Cocks had not sent anyone to represent him who could offer explana : tions to: assist tihe Court in arriving at a decision.; By the strict reading of the Act', there seemed no other course than to refuse the application, which was the ruling of the Court. ' Mr Q-Haire. claimed, as the occupier of property in Broad street. In this case the -rate had been paid, but, owing to applicant's absence from the districtnot, within, the i specified time—decision withheld. . Mr: Geo. Baird claimed, as being the occupier.of allotment in Rolleston street. There being no appearance of applicant, application refused, Abel Rowe claimed, as occupier of house and' allotment in Albert street. No; appearance of applicant, and claim refused. The business was resumed at 3 o clock, when Mr Macdonald appeared for Mr Mellhone,. and was urging his client's claims when we went to press.
