ADELAIDE.
August 7. The Treasurer's budget shows the deficiency of expenditure over revenue to be made up by stamp and succession duties ; also a tax on banking companies, in the form of a yearly composition of £2 for'every £100 worth of the average annual amount of unstamped notes issued, and a tax of 6d in the pound on dividends payable by public companies. It is proposed to borrow two and a-half millions and to;spend £600,000 this year. } J 2,000 immigrants are expected to arrive by Christmas. . , ;
Eleven lines of railways are proposed; in all 519 miles, costing £1,900,000, being at the rate of £4,000 a-mile.
The secular clause in the Education Act was carried in the Assembly.
