COMMERCIAL ADDINGTON MARKET

LAMBS SLIGHTLY DEARER (N.Z.P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. There were large yardings of fat stock at Addington to-day. Sheep showed little change and lambs and sheep sold at improved prices and fat cattle were easier. Store Sheep—Tire entry was 2733, including 1151 wethers from the Chatham Islands. No doubt, owing to the favourable change in the weather during the last week, bidding for all classes was keener than for some weeks past, and the yarding was not of sufficient size to satisfy all demands. Prices on the average showed an advance of fully 1/- a head. Although the Chatham Island sheep were not as good in quality as previous shipments and showed the effects of a rough voyage, the prices obtained were well up to those of last week. Best wethers made up to 28/3. Fat Sheep—The entry was about 3500, including a good proportion of hoggets. Mainly because of the large supply forward, they did not sell as readily as at previous sales and, except for best quality, prices showed a drop of up to 2/- a head. The highest price for hoggets was 47.1. Four-tooth wethers made from 39/7 to 48/7. As has been the case for some weeks, overweight ewes were not wanted. Young ewes and best quality aged ewes, suitable for butchers, met with a sound sale, and prices for these showed no material change on recent figures. A pen of southern four-tooth ewes sold from 30/1 to 36/1. Fat Cattle—The entry was 600 against 584 last week. Because of the over-supply there was a further easing for all classes. Good steers and heifers were down by 26/- a head on last week. With the butchers’ demand directed to increasing pennings of lambs and wethers, the high beef values ruling for some time past are over for the season. Best beef made from 47/to 50/-, good to 46/-, medium to 44/-, best cow to 38/-, and secondary to 31/-, all per 1001 b. Extra prime steers sold to £26/5/-, prime £l7 to £l9/10, extra prime heifers to £15.5/-, prime £l2/10 - to £l4, and extra prime cows to £l4/2/6. Fat Pigs—Porkers sold at an advance of 4. - to 5a head, the lifting of the "Hing restriction later in the month being a cause. Baconers eased by 5 - to C. - a head. The average price of baconers was 81d to 91 d per lb. BURNSIDE SALE VALUES IMPROVE (N.Z.P.A.) DUNEDIN, Dec. 5. Values improved in the major stock sections at Burnside to-day. A feature was the strong demand for store cattle. The fat sheep entry was 220. Prices advanced from 20 - to 25/-, compared with the sale last week, although toward the finish this advance was barely maintained. Prime steers made £2l/17/6 to £2B/2/6, medium and light £l5/17/6 to £2O/7/6, prime heifers £l3/7,6 to £l7/2/6, medium £ll/2/6 to £l2/12/6, light from £9/712/6, prime cows £9/12/6 to £l4/2/6, medium and light £6/17/6 to £9/2/6. The fat sheep entry was 1600 and comprised mainly average quality. Wethers remained on about the same level as last week, while ewes experienced an improvement of from 1/6 to 2/- a head. Prime heavy shorn wethers made 40/- to 50/-, medium and light 29/- to 36/6, prime shorn ewes 25/- to 31/6, and medium 21/6 to 23/-. The entry of spring lambs numbered 280 and sold at 28/- to 48/6. The store cattle section was the strongest numerically for some time, and the keen demand was reflected in the bidding. Prices were the highest for several sales. Three to three and a-half year-old steers made £l3/17/6 to £l5, two to two-ai l-a-half year-old steers made £ll/17/6 to £l2/17/6, 18-mmiths-old from £7/15/-, and yearlings from £6/10/-. Fat pigs were yarded in the strongest numbers for some weeks and recent values were well mainttained. Heavy choppers made £l2/15/- to £l4/10/-, prime baconers £7/3/- to £9/2/-, medium £6/5/- to £6/17/- and light from £4/18/-. NEW BROKEN HILL FURTHER SHARE ISSUE (7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 4.
