COBBERS’ CLUB
Championships Held
Mr J. Fraser, physical director of the Timaru Cobbers" Club, welcomed new members at the club gymnastic championships held on Wednesday night. Although the classes were growing they could extend a welcome to any young boy wishing to become a Cobber. The club's aim was to improve the mind and body, Mr Fraser said, adding that there was no better way for boys to spend their leisure than in physical culture and the development of a clear mind. Ross Sim won the championship, with Walter Ho'"’ runner-up and Russell Kina third. The judge, Mr A. Calder, Physical Welfare Officer, congratulated the competitors on the high standard reached. He had seen the Canterbury championships recently, and he considered that the “Cobbers” would be able to hold their own in such a competition. He spoke of the value of gymnastics and advised the boys to continue their interest. During the evening Mr Fraser thanked Mr B. Menzies for his assistance to the club as a voluntary instructor and leader.
