RICCARTON NOTES
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 31. Confusion, a three-year-old filly by Solicitor General-Babel, has not done well this season, being very light in condition, so H. and A. Cutts have sent her back to the Stonyhurst Stud, in the hope that a rest for a few months will help her to build up. Though small, she has plenty of speed, but she has been handicapped in her races by her inability to begin fast, the result being that usually she has been in a lot of trouble.
C. Stokes will ride Piccolo in the NewZealand Cup, while K. Nuttall will be on Authentic. A. Stokes expects to have the mount on the Waimate gelding. Sphere. Though Golden Souvenir still wears a bandage he has nearly recovered from the injury to his off hind leg, which he received at Trentham. L. J. Ellis has him in regular work again and the mishap has not seriously interfered with his preparation for the New Zealand Cup, iti which he should run well. Queen’s General is an addition to R. E. Johnstone’s team. He is owned on the West Coast and he is a well grown, good looking brown colt, two-years-old. by Solicitor General from Queen Linda by Gainscourt from Claves, a descendant of Frailty. C. B. Dawson has made another start with the three-year-old filly, Language, who was given a spell after a race at Ashburton. L. J. Ellis has had Detain in work for a few weeks and he looks well. He is a four-year-old by Defaulter from Disdain, by Robespierre from Contempt, the dam also of Silver Scorn. Competitor has not thrived in the last few weeks and the Derby engagement by this Foxbridge colt will not be continued.
