WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
OTIPUA Miss N. O’Donoghue presided at the October meeting of the Otipua Women’s Institute. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs F. Richards and Mrs Craig who are ill in hospital. It was agreed to give £1 to the Leper Fund and 10/to the St. John Ambulance Fund. Mrs Newton and Mrs Godwin were proposed as delegates to the Federation meeting to be held in Timaru. A competition conducted by Mrs Arden was won by Mesdames Stevenson and L. Jackson, and Mrs Newton was the winner of the wandering shilling, Songs by Mrs Watson, of Christchurch, brought the social half-hour to a close. It was decided to keep the sales table going, the proceeds to go to a fund to purchase an electric urn. Hostesses were Mesdames Black apd Lunham. Competitions resulted: Jar of spring flowers, Mrs R. Jackson 1, Mrs L. Jackson 2. Premier bloom. Mrs R Jackson 1. Mrs Caldwell 2. Cushion cover. Miss N. Campbell 1. Miss Ivey 2. Cold sweet, Mrs L. Jackson 1. Mrs Arden and Miss M. Godwin (equal) 2.
