KUROW

Fishing The season opened in cold, wet weather and only a few of the keener anglers ventured out. The Waitaki and the Hakataramea were high and discoloured, and this probably accounted for the small bags. Fly fishing was almost. impossible and the fish taken were caught on the minnow and the bully. Lake Waitaki, which provided excellent sport on opening day last year, was disappointing, one party fishing for a considerable time on opening morning without touching a fish. The fish taken in the Hakataramea were in excellent condition and provided good sport in the fast water near the mouth. It seems likely that the rivers will remain high for some time as there is a good deal of snow on the ranges. Staff Changes Mr H. McKinnon, M.A., who has been on the staff of tlie Kurow District High School for the last seven years, four of which he served in the Pacific Forces, has accepted the position of English master at the Polish Children’s Camp at Pahiatua. Carleton, expressed regret at Mr McKinnon's departure and referred to the able manner in which he had conducted the secondary department of the school. Mr D. E. Neave spoke an behalf of the School Committee. A presentation was made by one of the senior pupils. Miss V. Brown has been appointed infant mistress at Kurow District High School and will take up her duties at an early date.
