DOMINION STATUS

Claims Of Ceylon (7.30 p.m.) COLOMBO, Oct. 2. "I strongly urged Ceylon’s claims to Dominion status," said Mr D. S. Senanayake, Leader of the State Council, when reporting to his Ministers on his visit to London. Mr Senanayake suggested that, if the British Government was not prepared to confer Dominion status without further consideration, that the island’s Ministers should draft a constitution to put into operation without any restrictive clauses, and that the general responsibility for Ceylon should be transferred to the Dominions Office He added that if the British Government felt that Ceylon, in spite of her war effort, could not be trusted, then a simple solution was to give the colony self-government and provide for the taking over of the administration in the event of default of the agreement.
