SHIPS HELD UP
Coal Trimmers Strike SYDNEY. October 2. Six ships are held up in Newcastle as the result of a strike by coal trimmers. The ships were to have loaded coal urgently needed in Sydney and Melbourne. The coal trimmers are on strike in protest against the suspension of a number of men who refused to work overtime. They decided not to resume until the suspended men are reinstated. There have been no developments in the industrial disputes involving waterside workers at the Port Kembla steelworks. Bunnerong power station and the Sydney and Newcastle commercial printing houses, but the meat strike at Riverstone has been settled.
