RICCARTON NOTES
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 2. Following rain last night and more showers this morning the trial grass track at Rlccarton was not fast. Palfrey was a length in front of Essay all through a mile in 1.49 1-5, with Essay working lazily. Gulf Stream covered the same ground alone in 1.47 3-5, finishing under a pull, after doing the first half in 51 3-5. Lord Advocate was much too good for Bitter Sweet and Desert Victory over seven furlongs in 1.30 4-5, the last four in 52 2-5. Thornbridge beat Benbecula in 1.32, the last four in 53sec, an attractive gallop. Night Stalk registered 1.35 but came home in 51sec, while Silver Sal and Whackie took 1.35 2-5, with the former finishing resolutely and anxious to go on. Sanskrit easily beat Belle Leonne over six furlongs in 1.20. The latter did not please her trainer and will not go to Wingatui. Liquidate dashed over five furlongs in 1.4 3-5, Burberry registering 1.5. the last four attractively in 50 3-5, while Foreign Ways ran away from Pandosto in 1.5 3-5. Palm Bearer and Montezuma were mates over half a mile in 51sec, equalled by Full Moon and his four-year-old half sister, Fading' Light, in company. Air Lord beat Royal Vestments easily In 51 2-5, Bruce going nicely by himself in 51 2-5. Erratum took 52 2-5 while Lakhnan went easily in 54 3-5. The two-year-olds, Lord Robin and Privilege, ran three furlongs in 38 1-5.
Tamerlane gave a poor showing in a school over four hurdles. Some of the horses who are to race at Wingatui will leave to-night, while others will travel to-morrow night. Prince Dolomite was shipped north to-day to take part in the steeplechase at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting next week. He went under the care of K. Thomson, who will ride him.
