He is to revert to sprinting at Washdyke next week. Entries for the South Canterbury meeting total 179, eight more than for the 1941 spring fixture. The only notable differences are a drop from 20 to 12 in the Hactlow Trot, and an increase from 36 to 42 in the Spring tj' 0. k 0N Shining Ring, winner of the Hastings Stakes, is the first horse raced by Mi- A. J. McKenzie, of Paki Paki. Tussock returned a win dividend of over half a century when he won the last race at Hastings. If the restriction on mid-week racing is lifted, interference with Industry would not be serious as far as South Canterbury is concerned. It would mean, at most, two Thursday meetings in the year when complete restoration of permits is made. The lifting of restrictions on racinghas made a big difference to leading jockeys in Australia. They are again able to accept inter-State engagements. A. Breasley and R. Heather (Melbourne) are riding at Randwick; and D. Munro. W. Cook, J. Thompson and other crack Sydney horsemen are booked for the two Cups. The Geraldine-bred three-year-old, Lord Coronach, who was operated on for wind trouble, won the Flying Handicap at Hastings in courageous fashion. He was checked at the start, and after getting to the front at the distance had to fight off a challenge from Lord Theio. A maiden expected to win soon In the north Is General Lytup. a threeyear half-brother to Night Pilot, owned by Mrs W. D. Graham. He is by Solicitor-General from Lytup, a halfsister to Madrid.
