RICCARTON NOTES

(Special) ' CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 28 Several Riccarton trainers have gone south for the Otago Hunt meeting and. there will be a big exodus next week, as more than 40 horses from here are engaged at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting. Weld Cona was in good order when he left for Wingatui, and so was Falconbridge. These two, with the benefit of apprentice allowances, should show up over a mile to-morrow. Major Argosy made a good impression when he won his division of the maiden race at Ashburton. He was much too good for the opposition in the final furlong and he will attract attention at Wingatui to-morrow, as his seven furlong engagement will give a line to his prospects in the Dunedin Guineas. C. T. Wilson will miss the Otago Hunt meeting, but he will be at Wingatui next week for the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting, at which his mounts will include Sanskrit, Thornbridge. Kazimor, Foxhaven and Eudora. The absence of Pink Clover from the Otago Hunt meeting, where he was to have run the steeplechase, is due to the gelding being amiss. He has been sent back to his owner in South Canterbury, where he will have a long spell.
