WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
KIMBELL Mrs D. J. Keenan presided over the last meeting of the Kimbell Women’s Institute. It was decided to forward donations to the Makogai Leper Fund and to Stratheona Training Hostel. Short talks on “People in the News” were given by Mrs Waters and Miss Hill. Mrs Waters acted as hostess. The competitions resulted: Boy’s trousers to be sent to Unrra, Miss Cooper 1, Mrs Keenan 2. Premier bloom, Mrs L. Gardner 1, Mrs Waters 2. WASHDYKE Mrs Jones presided at the September meeting of the Washdyke Women's Institute. Final arrangements were made for the birthday party. Details of the next Federation meeting were discussed. An interesting demonstration of bookbinding was given by Mrs J. King. The wandering shilling : was won by Mrs James. August competitions resulted: Paper scrap book, Miss I. King 1. Mrs J. King 2, Mrs Jones 3. Shortbread, Mrs Jones 1, Miss I. King 2, Mrs James 3. Premier bloom, Cluster, Mrs Browne; single, Mrs J. King. The September competitions resulted: peggy squares, largest number, Miss I. King (100) 1. Mrs J. King (75) 2, Mrs James (50) 3; best knitted, Miss I. King 1, Mrs James 2, Mrs Jones 3. Sponge, Mrs J. King 1. Miss I. King 2, Mrs James 3. Premier bloom, single, Mrs Anderson; cluster, Mrs J. King.
