Cyclone Hits India (7.30 p.m J BOMBAY. Sept. 27. Many thousands of persons are h- . i-«, h-ca-uof a cyclone which struck a 300-mile coastal strip between Bombay and Ahmadabad. Flood waters ruined tens of thousands of Western India's richest lirmlarc carrying much needed grain crops. Ten thousand persons are homeless in Surat, one of five towns isolated by the cyclone, but the damage in the other four towns is not yet known. The other four towns are Ahmadabad. India's second biggest cotton mill town. Baroda, Broach and Navsari. All are flooded and miles of railway line between Bombay. Ahmadabad and Delhi have been swept away. Ahmadabad's only contact with Bombay is an emergence air service. Tlie total death roll is not expected to be heavy. As the cyclone neared the sea rainfall figures, excessive even lor India's monsoon, were recorded. Navsari recorded 10 inches in one day and most of the other areas affec’vd recorded 20 inches for 48 hours Houses collapsed in Broach, causing casualties. Shops were knee-deep in water.
