ASHBURTON SCHOOLS
Question Of Amalgamation (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 28. The question was raised by Mr R. G. Gerard (National. Mid-Canterbury) dining the discussion of the Education Department estimates in the House to-day of whether it was proposed to go ahead with the suggested amalgamation of tlie Ashburton Technical and High Schools. He .said that when the previous Minister of Education visited Ashburton in 1937 the matter was nearly completed. No considerable sum since then had been spent on either school. If tlie present Minister did not. propose to go on with tlie amalgamation Mr Gerard asked whether the Minister’ would arrange for greater provision in the estimates in the interests of the two schools. Work on the schools had been held up all these years because of the suggested Amalgamation. He would like the Minister to visit Ashburton to discuss the matter.
