VERSATILE BRITISH PLANE
Off Secret List (11.35 p.m.i LONDON Sept. 26 The latest British plane off the secret list is the Blackburn Firebrand. a combined fighter, tornedocarri**r and dive bomh**r. which will shortly be in service with the Fleet. The Firebrand is the only singleseater, torpedo-carrier plane in the world and probably the most versatile attack plane in the Royal Navy armed with four cannon and equipped for carrying bombs and rockets as alternatives to the torpedo. The Firebrand, although one of the largest and heaviest single-seater aircraft in service, is highly manoeuvrable. »ven when carrying a torpedo and can readily take off and land on the deck of an aircraftcarrier. The wing span is 51ft 3in and the overall Icn-ith 39ft lin.
