Acreage As Yet Unknown “The programme for linen flax for this season has already been decided on. but as far as other crops are concerned the position since the cessation of hostilities in the Pacific has not yet been clarified. Every endeavour is beingmade to have the position made clear as soon as possible.” This reply was received from the Director of the Fields Division (Mr J. Smith, in response to a letter from (he South Canterbury Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union requesting the production required of potatoes. linen flax. etc. "You will appreciate that decisions in this respect cannot be made in Wellington because of the necessary tie-up which must occur in the whole orogramme for the Forces which will be retained in the Pacific area. Announcements will be made as soon as decisions are reached in respect of each individual item,” concluded Mr Smith.
