RICCARTON NOTES
(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 26. Foxhaven is the latest addition to the jumping ranks at Riccarton. He shaped well this morning over the pony hurdles and his education will be gone on with. Whackie was given a quiet run over two hurdles in preparation for a more extended school later in the week. If he goes on all right he may be a candidate for hurdle honours at Trentham next month. In the meantime, he and Silver Sal are booked for flat racing at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting next week. L. J. Ellis is on the mend and though the injury to his ankle will keep him at home for a few more days, he hopes to be riding next week at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting. The three-year-old, Montezuma, is back in F. D. Jones’s active team, having made a good recovery from a burst hoof. Princess Anne, in the same ownership, is to be spelled for a few months while she is treated for splints. Dawn Salute, a recent addition to V. Lee’s team, is a two-year-old who may develop into a smart performer, though she is not likely to shine in early races. She is by Nightly, her dam being Sunny Dawn, by Sunny Form (son of Boniform), from Cassock, an Australian-bred mare by Ladurlad.
Royal Rae, who was unlucky In the' Geraldine Cup through being squeezed on the rails, is little the worse for the experience, and it is hoped he will fulfil his engagement at Wingatui next week. The two-year-old, Palomino, is sore and will have to miss next week’s trip to Wingatui for the McLean Stakes, in which R. Wilson’s stable will now be represented only by Full Moon, by Nizami-Aurora Borealis.
