Franco As War Criminal
Russian’s Demand (8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK. Sept. 24. Mr Nikolai Novikov, acting head of the Soviet Embassy in Washington, in a speech at a Madison Square rally, demanded that General Franco be tried as a war criminal. Professor Harold Laski, speaking over the radio from London, urged the immediate severance of all diplomatic relations with the Spanish regime and the restoration of the republic. Mr Novikov said that General Franco through aggressive actions against the Soviet Union put himself on the same level as Hitler and Mussolini and in the same measure as they is subject to prosecution as a war criminal.
