GASTRO-ENTERITIS

Prevalent In Auckland Province Fifteeen Deaths At Mental Hospital (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON. Aug. 24. A warning has been issued by the Health Department that gastroenteritis has" occurred to a considerable extent particularly in the Auckland Province, and. as the disease may be dangerous, particularly to old people and young children, precautions should be taken.

The spread of the disease can occur through flies, and, consequently, the main preventive measures are cleanliness and the prevention of the breeding of flies. The incidence of the disease appears to have been particularly severe in institutions where large numbers of persons have been in close contact, and at the Tokanui Mental Hospital it has been a. contributory cause in the death of 15 persons. 10 of whom were debilitated by old age.
