WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

Timaru Centre Miss D. Austin presided at the meeting of the Timaru Women's Institute Centre which was held at the residence of Mrs Maitland. Two new members were enrolled and one visitor was welcomed. Mrs S. H. Unwin (Winchester) gave an interesting demonstration on weaving and displayed many' fine examples of her work She was accorded a vote of thanks. Mrs You:.a (Dunedin) exhibited a beautiful rug made from woollen scraps. The roll call: "What I would like on the programme” provided many useful suggestions. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses Mesdames Brown and Pemberton. Rosewill Mils Bailey presided at the meeting of the Rosewill Institute. Motions of sympathy with Mrs Basset and the Fraser family in their recent bereavements were carried in silence. A letter was received from Sister Murray thanking the Institute for a parcel she had received. An interesting demonstration was given by Mrs Bresnahan on making wool mats and she received a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Stevens read an article on the work done by Rewi Alley in China.
