COMMERCIAL EXPORT TO AUSTRALIA APPROVED

I Feed Ard Undergrade White Oats IN. DUNEDIN. Aug. 24. ■ Chief interest in wheat centres round | tile ability of farmers to get their ground in order for spring sowing, and. if possible, to make up the leeway lost ' (if the autumn sowing. Only very odd ! | lines of wheat are now coining to hand I i and these are finding a ready market j | for either milling or towl feed require- ; ments, according to quality. During the past month or two dei liveries of oats have been more than | equal to the local demand, and. in consequence. stocks have been accumu- ! lating in the principal South Island | ports. This is particularly the case in the undergrade lines, and in such varieties as Duns and blacks. As a result of representations the | Government has now decided to release for export to Australia up to 10, sacks of feed or undergrade white oats, and also any Duns or black j [ oats that are available and for which j there is a market on the other side. This should help to relieve the congestion in the stores. No export of white oats of milling quality or lines equal to A or B grade will be per- I mitted. Chaff is in plentiful supply and a I small demand is confined to’ lines of really’ good quality. Prices remain un- I changed at up to £7 10 - a ton. ex truck, at Dunedin, sacks extra. The local market is still being supplied with potatoes on a hand-to-mouth basis, but it is expected that more plentiful supplies will be available from Canterbury within the next few weeks. It is anticipated that there will be ample supplies of potatoes in sight until the new potatoes become available towards the end of the year. The quietness in most lines of seeds remains, although there is steady’ inquiry for both certified and uncertified perennial ryegrass of high germination. and also for Italian ryegrass of similar quality. Good quality Montgomery red clover continues in demand. There is no change to report in regal'd to clover and cowgrass, while little interest is displayed in cocksfoot crested dogstail, Chewing’s fescue, and brown top.
