HOOK
Victory Celebrations Fireworks and the skirl of the pipes as members of the Waimate Pipe Band marched round a bonfire ushered in the victory celebrations at Hook. Later adjourning to the Hall the large and happy throng entered into the carnival spirit in carefree fashion.
With Mrs Rose at the piano and Mr R. Nell on his piano accordeon. Mrs A. R. Kingsbury assisted by Messrs J. M. Tiffen and C. Cochrane, led a community sing. With the whole gathering joining in the chorus. Mr N. Malthus sang, "Land of Hope and Glory,” and “Hail Caledonia.” Mrs C. F. Rose, Misses Eileen Henderson and Jean Mackenzie. Messrs R. Nell and T. Cochrane and Pipers A. Coo] -r, L. Ra-msey, Bowman and Burness supplied the music for the dances. Messrs J. Tiffen and R. Gabities were M.C. Thanksgiving Service At the thanksgiving service Mr M. Leadbetter officiated. In his address he drew the attention of the congregation to God. Who working through m i. provided the Allies with great leaders. Mrs C. Rose accompanied the selected hymns.
