FATAL ACCIDENTS
Three In Wellington (N.Z.P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 16. Private John Colson, of Trenthain Military Camp, was killed last evening when struck by a railcar on a level crossing near Trentham. An elderly woman. Mrs Beatrice Higgins, was knocked over by a car in Waterloo Quay and killed at 8 p m. A woman who had been injured in the street was taken into the Victoria Hotel to await an ambulance, and William McLean, a waterside worker, who had been assisting her out of the hotel, collapsed and died. The free ambulance dealt with 47 accidents yesterday. 30 between 2 pan. and 8 p.m. A majority were head injuries. the result of being struck by bottles. A few are considered serious. The police had a strenuous day. but there were only four arrests, all for drunkenness.
