A SHOE FOR A HAT

An Unrehearsed Incident

The large section of the crowd in the vicinity of the Stafford Street and Beswick Streets greatly enjoyed an unrehearsed incident while waiting for the appearance of the procession yesterday afternoon.

A woman had thrust her feet through a window in order to clamber on to a balcony. The opportunity was too good to miss, and a man standing on the balcony removed one of her shoes, and, amid cheers, threw it down to the crowd below. The embarrassed woman promptly withdrew her feet, and to a chorus of applause, her .’.hoe was flung up to her. Once more the man threw it back to the crowd. A feminine supporter at the window then seized the man's hat and threw it to the crowd. Several times it passed to and fro, till finally the man regained possession of the shoe and struck a bargain—a shoe for hat! The incident then closed, and the crowd turned its attention to the arrival of the procession.
