. Sir,—Your newspaper quotes expressions of appreciation mane oy Cr. McDougall at Monday's meeting of tne Umaru Borough Council, oi the services rendered oy Timaru Boys’ High School Band in parading to welcome returning service personnel. The praise is well merited, as the boys are doing a fine job. The Timaru Highland Pipe Band is also deserving praise and the thanks of the public. 1 am given to understand that UK band lias paraded on every occasion a draft of our boys have returned, sometimes at considerable inconvenience, at all hours and always in unilorm. we are proud of them.’ How conspicuous has been tile absence of the Timaru Municipal Band irom these welcomes. As some of its members are being paid for their services, from ratepayers’ money, surely it would not be expecting too much of the Council to see that the band parade with others in welcoming the men back home—l am, etc., Ratepayer-
