One was killed and others wounded in Salonika in clashes between police and demonstrators who paraded the streets in sympathy with local bakers who are striking for higher pay. Reuter’s correspondent at Athens says that more than 1000 workers joined in the parade. Crowds assembled outside the Government Buildings, shouting: “Work! Bread! Political Government!” When the crowd refused to disperse, warning shots were fired by the police. The police, who attempted to arrest some Communists at the Workers’ Club, were beaten. Police reinforcements arrived and arrested several demonstrators.
The Police Chief said: “The Communists organised the demonstration.” He denied that the police fired other than warning shots.
