POOR WELCOME

Sick And Wounded Men (N.Z.P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 13. A poor welcome was given a large party of sick and wounded who arrived at Lyttelton this morning in the hospital ship Oranje.

Not only did the men strike wet weather, but they had to be ferried from the ship, which anchored in the stream, to Lyttelton and then when they arrived at Christchurch they found only a few relatives there to meet them. Someone blundered somewhere. The men arrived at the station a few minutes after 10 o’clock, while the next-of-kin had been advised by radio that they would not arrive until 10 40. As the men were stepping off the train at Christchurch, the radio was still announcing that they would arrive at 10 45.
