Visiting Artists A visit to Timaru by Grade Fields would be out of the question and it was not practicable to include "important towns like Timaru" in the itinerary of the Claude Thornhill Show. This information has been received by the Mayor of Timaru (Mr A. E. S. Hanani from the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry). Replying to an inquiry by Mr Hanan, the Minister stated that Grade Fields was coming to New Zealand under the control of J. C. Williamson Ltd. She was making certain public appearances in Auckland. Wellington and Christchurch. and possibly Dunedin, although there was some doubt, about this at present which could not be resolved until her arrival on July 28. For (he remainder of her stay. Grade Fields would be visiting certain Service stations to entertain servicemen and women. Because she would be leaving New Zealand as early as August. 8 it. would be impossible for her to visit any but a few towns and stations. "It is regretted very much that from the information at my disposal a visit to Timaru would be out of the question," added the Minister. The Claude Thornhill Show was a party ol United States Navy personnel which was not making public appearances but giving concerts at Service stations and in halls in the cities, admission being to members of the Services only, and returned servicemen and patriotic workers by invitation.
