Steady Progress Continues Reply From Mr Semple Referring to the reconstruction of tlie Timaru borough water supply line, the Borough Engineer (Mr R. J, Comriei said yesterday that it was hoped to complete the pile driving for the new deviation across the Pareora River at Purves' crossing this week, when a commencement would be made with the erection of the trestle for carrying the new pipeline. Mr Comrie added that so far the temporary pipeline at Purvis' crossing' had been acting satisfactorily, and at present a sufficient supply of water was being delivered. When the change over from the temporary pipeline to the premanent structure was being made, it would be necessary to revert to the use of the electric pumps to maintain the supply. Urgent Report Requested "With reference to your Council's application for Government assistance toward the cost of restoration of the Timaru Borough water supply," wrote the Hen. B. Roberts for the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) in a letter which the Town Clerk (Mr J. M. Jenkins > received yesterday, “i have to confirm, as you were informed upon your recent visit to Wellington. that, an urgent report has been requested from the District Engineer. Upon receipt of same the application will receive due consideration.”
