WAIMATU HOCKEY REVIVED
Two Teams Available There was a good attendance of former hockey players at a meeting held in the Borough Chambers, the purpose of which was to consider the re-establishment of the game in Waimate. Mr J. Lundon, who presided, explained the object of the meeting. It was reported that most of the members of the men's hockey team of 1940 would be available, while the women also had a team.
Because of the wet condition of Victoria Park, playing on the oval was not permitted at present, but it was stated that members would be notified when the oval was in order. In the meantime, a blackboard lecture is to be given in the Borough Chambers, when Mr A. G. McHardy nas kindly offered to assist any new players. The following officers were elected:—Patron. the Mayor (Mr W. F. Boland): president, Mr Jas. Lundon; vice-president, Mr Doug. Jones; secretary. Miss G. Kennard; treasurer, Miss A. Wilce; committee, Mrs R. H. Kaan. Misses J. Laurenson and D. Boland, and Messrs R. McLeod, T. Fade and S. Bennington; auditor, Mr A. G. McHardy. Basketball The Waimate Basketball SubAssociation's matches on Saturday resulted: B grade: Morven Stewarts 17. St. Patrick's 15; Nurses 18, High School 8. No A grade matches were played, the Park courts being under snow. Golf Because of the presence of frozen snow, and the advisability of preventing damage to the greens and fairways. the Waimate Golf Club’s course was closed to all play over the weekend. Band Contest At a recent meeting of the Waimate Silver Band Committee, it was decided to enter in the contest to be held at Temuka in October (Labour Day). The chairman (Mr A. J. Kirby) appealed to members of the Band to attend every practice in order to ensure a high-grade performance at the contest. ,
