MOUNTBATTEN IN MANILA
Significant Talks (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON. July 19. Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten (Supreme Allied Commander in Southeast Asia) has had a three-day conference with General MacArthur at Manila. A correspondent of the British Broadcasting Corporation in Manila describes the conference as being of “tremendous importance” to the all-
out war effort against Japan, the complete co-ordination of the forces of Britain and America having been discussed. Admiral Mountbatten flew to Manila in a British air transport. His visit was kept secret, till the conference was Admiral Mountbatten and his staff also conferred with Admiral Thomas Kinkaid. Lieutenant-General G. C. Kenney 'Air Commander in Southwest Pacifiec), Major-General Ennis Whitehead (Commanding U.S. 51st Air Force), and Brigadier-General R. Eichelberger. Admiral Mountbatten arrived in Manila on July 12 and is returning to India to-dav.
